Hailey Okula, known online as Nurse Hailey, inspired hundreds of thousands by sharing her raw and honest journey through infertility and IVF. After two years of struggle, she and her husband, LAFD firefighter Matt Okula, were overjoyed to be expecting their first child.
Tragically, Hailey passed away on March 29, just moments after giving birth to their son, Crew, due to a rare childbirth complication called amniotic fluid embolism. She briefly spoke to her newborn before going into cardiac arrest.
Her husband shared the heartbreaking news on April 1, describing her as the love of his life and praising her strength during their fertility battle. “She was my everything,” Matt said. “Her love for Crew was limitless, even before he arrived.”
Hailey’s story touched many, especially those facing similar struggles. Her followers, numbering over 425,000 on Instagram and 200,000 on TikTok, mourned the loss of a woman who helped break the silence around infertility.
A GoFundMe has been launched to support Matt and baby Crew as they navigate life without Hailey.
