My Neighbor Kept Stealing My Amazon Packages—Until I Tracked One Box to Her Backyard
At 80, I never imagined I’d need a tracking device to protect my own deliveries. But after Linda moved in next door, packages kept disappearing from my porch.
First, it was my vitamins. Then my slippers. Finally, my granddaughter’s birthday present.
Every time, Linda offered the same excuse: “Those delivery drivers are always mixing things up!”
When I installed a doorbell camera, I caught her taking my packages straight from my porch. Confronted with the footage, she laughed and told me I was too old to get worked up over cardboard boxes.
That was her mistake.
With help from my grandson Michael, I ordered one final package and secretly placed an active tracker inside.
Within minutes of delivery, Linda grabbed the box and disappeared into her house.
Then the tracker started moving toward her backyard.
Michael and I followed the signal along the public sidewalk. When we peered through a gap in her fence, we couldn’t believe what we saw.
Dozens of packages were stacked beneath a tarp beside her shed. Some were opened, others still sealed, and several had our neighbors’ names on them.
Linda was opening my package when she discovered the tracker. Her expression changed instantly. She hurried inside and threw the device over the back fence.
But it was too late.
We recovered the tracker, contacted the police, and handed over our camera footage and recordings. Soon, other neighbors came forward with reports of missing deliveries, including prescription medication, children’s clothes, and cosmetics.
The investigation revealed that Linda had been taking packages from multiple homes and selling some of the contents online.
A week later, she appeared at my door, furious.
“You ruined my life!” she shouted.
I looked her straight in the eye.
“No, Linda. I ordered a package to my own house. You’re the one who decided to take it.”
For once, she had no clever excuse.
At 80, I’d learned something important: being kind doesn’t mean allowing people to take advantage of you.
I didn’t need to argue, threaten her, or seek revenge. I simply gathered the evidence and let the truth speak for itself.
And the next time I ordered a package, it arrived safely on my porch.
What would you have done in my place—called the police immediately or set a trap like I did?
