For months, the same mysterious dog appeared beside my son Caleb’s grave every Sunday.
Caleb had died three years earlier at just 19. Visiting his grave was the only thing that helped me cope with the pain.
The dog had no collar and never asked for food. He simply sat beside Caleb’s headstone, then disappeared before I left.
One Sunday, I decided to follow him.
He led me through unfamiliar streets to a small, weathered house. Then he scratched twice at the door.
When it opened, I froze.
“Sadie?”
It was Caleb’s former girlfriend.
Before I could ask what she was doing there, I heard a little voice.
“Mommy?”
A three-year-old boy appeared. The moment I saw his face, my heart stopped. His eyes, his smile, even the way he raised one eyebrow looked exactly like Caleb.
Sadie finally revealed the truth.
She had discovered she was pregnant after Caleb died. She was young, terrified, and never found the courage to tell me.
The little boy was Caleb’s son.
Then I learned something else: the dog, Jasper, had belonged to Caleb too.
Suddenly, everything made sense.
Jasper wasn’t visiting a random grave. He was visiting his best friend.
I knelt beside the little boy.
“Did you know my daddy?” he asked.
Through my tears, I whispered, “I knew him very well. He was my little boy.”
The child looked up at me.
“So you’re my grandma?”
I could only nod before he wrapped his little arms around me.
For three years, I thought I had lost every piece of my son.
But I was wrong.
I still had a piece of Caleb—and he was holding my hand. ❤️
