I’m Goldie, 65, not one for fancy things. My home on Willow Lane is modest but full of memories, especially of raising my granddaughters, Emily and Rachel, after their parents split. I was there for every scraped knee, science project, and sleepless night.
Emily, ever the bold one, came bursting in one day with news—she was engaged! I helped plan every detail, even bought her $4,000 dress. When she picked my birthday, June 15th, for the wedding, I didn’t mind. I just wanted to be part of it.
But the day of the wedding, dressed in my best, I was told bluntly by Emily that I wasn’t invited. She didn’t want “an elderly presence” ruining her vibe.
