Teen mom who chose son’s birth over cancer treatment dies

Posted on May 11, 2025 By admin

Life can be both beautiful and cruel, its unpredictability shaping each journey.

At just 18 and 17 weeks pregnant, Brianna Rawlings was thrilled to become a mom when she received heartbreaking news: she had a rare and aggressive blood cancer, NK cell leukemia. Her earlier symptoms had been mistaken for normal pregnancy effects.

Faced with a devastating choice—start treatment and lose the baby, or continue the pregnancy and delay treatment—Brianna chose her unborn son. Tragically, both would lose their lives.

Her son, Kyden, was delivered early via emergency C-section due to a blood infection. He lived just 12 days, surrounded by his mother’s love. “Those 12 days were the best of my life,” Brianna said.

Determined to beat cancer in her son’s memory, Brianna pushed through pain and exhaustion. At first, she showed signs of recovery, but her condition worsened, and a planned bone marrow transplant had to be canceled. Her family raised funds for an expensive trial drug, but it was too late.

Brianna passed away on December 29, 2018, at 19 years old—fighting bravely to the end. Her story is a powerful testament to a mother’s love and sacrifice.
