When Dad showed up at my door at 11 p.m. with a packed bag, saying he was divorcing my mom, I was shocked. But as the night went on, I realized something deeper was wrong.
I was seven months pregnant and feeling blessed. Peter, my husband, and I were excitedly preparing for our baby. Mom and Dad, married 37 years, were also looking forward to being grandparents. Divorce seemed unimaginable.
So, when Dad knocked on our door late that night, I was caught off guard. He told me he was divorcing Mom and needed space, planning to go to the lake house. But the lake house had been sold a year ago.
The next morning, I found a note saying he’d gone to the lake house, and Mom had no idea where he was. She was shocked, revealing that Dad had been talking to a woman named Lauren, raising suspicions of an affair. We drove to Lauren’s house, but when we arrived, it wasn’t what I expected.
Instead of a scandalous affair, I was greeted with a surprise baby shower! Dad had orchestrated the whole thing as a mystery, with a detective theme, complete with “evidence” and “case files.” Even Peter, who had been in on the surprise, chuckled at my stunned reaction.
The greatest mystery, however, was how my family pulled off this surprise without me suspecting a thing!
