Joe Biden Diagnosed with Aggressive Prostate Cancer
Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with stage nine prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a May 18 statement from his office. The cancer is aggressive (Gleason score 9) but hormone-sensitive, offering hope for effective treatment. Biden and his family are currently reviewing options with his doctors.
This news comes after ongoing health concerns and Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race just months before Election Day, handing leadership to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump Responds
Donald Trump, Biden’s longtime political rival, shared a rare message of support on Truth Social:
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis… We wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Vice President Harris also offered support, calling Biden a “fighter” and expressing hope for his full recovery.
Biden’s Cancer History
This isn’t Biden’s first cancer battle. He had skin cancer treatment before his presidency and surgery in 2023 to remove a tumor. His commitment to cancer research deepened after the loss of his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015.
