2-year-old girl killed by her grandpa alongside grandma and dad

A Louisiana Mother’s Worst Nightmare

On a quiet morning in May, tragedy struck a family in Keithville, Louisiana. Kara Hanning never imagined she’d be burying her 2-year-old daughter, Adalynn Mae — especially not under such heartbreaking circumstances.

Instead of celebrating Mother’s Day, Kara faced unimaginable grief.

A Shocking Discovery

Around 6:45 a.m. on May 5, 2025, deputies responding to a welfare check found four bodies inside a home: Leroy Sadler, his wife Judy, their son James, and little Adalynn. Authorities say Leroy killed his family before turning the gun on himself.

Kara, who was at work, learned something was wrong when friends called, concerned about Adalynn. After failed attempts to reach her husband and in-laws, she rushed to the house — only to be met with devastating news.

A Family Torn Apart

Kara described Adalynn as a joyful, spirited toddler who loved the outdoors. She believes Leroy had been overwhelmed by grief, having lost his stepdaughter to cancer and recently learned of his wife’s illness. Despite his actions, Kara says she holds no hatred in her heart.

“He loved that baby so much,” she said. “I forgive him. I just wish it never happened.”

Seeking Support

Kara’s cousin launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. “No mother should have to lay her baby to rest on Mother’s Day,” she wrote.

This tragedy highlights the importance of mental health awareness. Kara hopes her story encourages others to seek help — and reminds us all of how precious and fragile life is.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. No one should face their pain alone.
