Disney CEO Bob Iger and ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic have urged The View hosts to tone down political commentary, particularly their frequent criticism of Donald Trump. This directive, shared ahead of Trump’s 2024 inauguration, has stirred tension within the show’s outspoken panel.
According to the New York Post, executive producer Brian Teta discussed easing Trump-related commentary with staff, especially after a November episode required multiple legal disclaimers related to Trump’s cabinet picks. Sources say ABC often discusses viewer feedback with talent, and this was no exception.
While co-hosts were encouraged to “balance” the show rather than specifically go soft on Trump, a recent meeting between Karamehmedovic, the hosts, and Teta emphasized shifting focus toward celebrity and lifestyle content. The suggestion was not mandatory but reportedly met resistance—especially from Ana Navarro—who argued that audiences value The View for its political analysis.
Despite executive pressure, the co-hosts have continued their critical political commentary since Trump returned to office.
Meanwhile, Disney faces broader political pressure. In December, it settled a $16 million lawsuit with Trump over an ABC interview in which a civil ruling was mischaracterized. Trump is also suing CBS and Paramount for $20 billion over a 60 Minutes interview. The fallout has already led to the resignation of key CBS executives.
