Ask any parent, and they’ll likely say there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for their child.
From the moment we become parents, our lives revolve around loving, protecting, and caring for our children. Sadly, there are things no parent can prevent—like illness. Each year, countless children face battles they never should.
Alina and Aaron Edwards’ world was shattered when their 9-year-old daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite their hope, doctors eventually told them there was nothing more they could do. Emma’s parents then focused on making her remaining time as joyful as possible.
Emma had a unique final wish—not to meet a celebrity or go to Disneyland, but to marry her 10-year-old boyfriend, DJ. Their love story had started in third grade, and with the help of their community, Make-A-Wish, and many volunteers dubbed “Emma’s Army,” her dream became reality.
In just two days, everything was donated to create a special wedding. On June 29, Emma arrived in a wheelchair, glowing in a purple dress, as she was wheeled down the aisle. The young couple exchanged vows and rings, and DJ sweetly kissed his bride.
Emma passed away on July 11, 2023. Her obituary described her as a vibrant, funny, and loving soul—a “little unicorn” who brought joy to everyone she met. She is remembered for her strength, love, and light.
Rest in peace, Emma. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
