Stunt Performer Sues Kevin Costner Over Unscripted Scene in Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2
Devyn LaBella, a stunt double for actress Ella Hunt, is suing Kevin Costner and the producers of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 for breach of contract and sexual harassment. She alleges she was made to perform in an unscripted, violent rape scene without proper notice, consent, or an intimacy coordinator, violating SAG-AFTRA guidelines.
According to the lawsuit, Costner improvised the scene on May 2, 2023, after Hunt refused to participate. LaBella claims she was misled about the scene, not informed of its nature, and exposed to a non-closed set. She says she felt “shock, embarrassment and humiliation,” and began therapy in June 2023.
Costner denies the allegations. His attorney says LaBella consented, citing a “thumbs up” gesture and a positive text message she sent after filming. The defense also claims she was in “good spirits” following the shoot.
LaBella insists she felt pressure to stay professional during production. She is seeking damages for a hostile work environment and breach of contract.
Costner, who invested $38M into the film, saw Horizon: Chapter 1 flop at the box office in 2024. Chapter 2 premiered at the Venice Film Festival, with a wide release still pending.
