Suspect in Minnesota Political Shootings Captured
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of Vance Luther Boelter, 57, one of the most wanted men in the U.S., following the largest manhunt in Minnesota history. Boelter was captured Sunday evening near Green Isle after a Sibley County resident spotted him on a trail camera.
Around 9 p.m., an emergency alert was issued after Boelter, dressed in military gear and armed, was seen on foot. He evaded capture for nearly an hour before surrendering without resistance near his former home.
Boelter is accused of killing Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and critically wounding State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, during a pre-dawn rampage on Saturday. Disguised as law enforcement, he used police-style gear and a Ford SUV with flashing lights to carry out the attacks.
Authorities recovered weapons, tactical gear, and a hit list from his vehicle. Boelter faces four felony counts of second-degree murder and attempted murder. His bail is set at $5 million.
Yvette Hoffman, who was shot eight times, said she and her husband are lucky to be alive and condemned the politically motivated violence. Their daughter, Hope, was credited with saving lives during the attack.
Governor Tim Walz and law enforcement officials called the killings a betrayal of public trust and praised the swift capture of the suspect.
