Tom Cruise Shuts Down AI Resurrection of Val Kilmer in ‘Top Gun 3’
Tom Cruise reportedly erupted in anger during a Top Gun 3 meeting when someone suggested bringing back Val Kilmer’s Iceman character using AI. The actor, known for his dedication to authenticity, was furious over the idea, calling it a betrayal of Kilmer’s legacy.
Sources said Cruise, 62, leapt from his seat and “let rip,” leaving the room in stunned silence. He believes digitally recreating Kilmer, who died in April 2025, would “bastardize everything” the late actor stood for.
Kilmer made his final appearance in Top Gun: Maverick, with AI aiding his voice due to throat cancer complications. Cruise reportedly saw that cameo as Kilmer’s proper farewell and refuses to allow a digital version in future films.
Although Top Gun 3 may reference Iceman, Cruise insists any posthumous recreation is off the table. “If Val can’t approve it himself, Tom won’t support it,” one insider said.
Cruise’s outburst mirrors his past on-set intensity, such as his 2020 rant over COVID-19 protocol violations during Mission: Impossible 7. He’s known for defending the integrity of his films — and this time, Val Kilmer’s legacy.
