The sports and business worlds are mourning billionaire Sunjay Kapur, who tragically died during a polo match in Windsor, England, on June 12. The 53-year-old chairman of global auto parts giant Sona Comstar collapsed after being stung by a bee, triggering a fatal anaphylactic shock.
Witnesses said Kapur, a familiar face in British polo and a friend of Prince William, appeared fine moments before the incident. “He was full of life, laughing, joking, then gone in an instant,” a source told The Mirror. One witness reported Kapur’s last words as, “I’ve swallowed something,” leading to speculation he may have ingested the insect.
Initially thought to be a heart attack, the cause was later linked to the allergic reaction. Friends remembered him as kind, generous, and beloved by both staff and peers.
Born in 1971, Kapur succeeded his father as head of Sona Comstar in 2015, expanding the company globally. He was worth an estimated $1.2 billion and held U.S. citizenship.
In his personal life, Kapur was formerly married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children. Their 2016 divorce was contentious, with Kapoor alleging domestic issues. In 2017, Kapur married model Priya Sachdev, and they had a son in 2018.
