Heartbreaking new details have emerged about the sudden death of celebrity chef Anne Burrell, who passed away at age 55 on June 17, 2025. She was found unresponsive in the shower of her Brooklyn home by her husband, Stuart Claxton, early that morning. Emergency responders were unable to revive her.
Burrell had appeared in high spirits the night before, performing in an improv show — the finale of her class at The Second City — and was described by friends as joyful and energetic.
According to reports, Claxton last saw her around 1 a.m. and found her unconscious 6–7 hours later. He called 911 and was instructed to perform CPR, but she was already unresponsive. The New York Fire Department later confirmed they responded to a cardiac arrest call at 7:50 a.m.
Burrell’s family remembered her as a beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth touched millions. Born in Cazenovia, NY, in 1969, she was inspired by her mother and Julia Child to pursue cooking. On shows like Worst Cooks in America, she became known for her encouraging, accessible teaching style.
She met Claxton on Bumble in 2018, married him in 2021, and the couple enjoyed life in their Brooklyn home. In a 2023 interview, Anne reflected on their marriage: “It’s the being together all the time, but it’s also the adventure together.”
