A heated debate has erupted around Planet Fitness after a video went viral involving a transgender woman in a women’s locker room at the Fairbanks, Alaska location.
A woman posted a photo of the trans woman shaving in the locker room and criticized the gym for allowing “men” in women’s spaces. Her video rant gained traction online, sparking widespread controversy.
In response, Planet Fitness revoked the woman’s membership for violating their photo policy but defended the trans member, reaffirming their inclusive locker room policy based on gender identity. They warned, however, that acting in bad faith could result in membership termination.
The backlash intensified as more images of the trans woman surfaced, prompting some conservatives to call for a boycott. The controversy has impacted Planet Fitness financially, with stock prices dropping from $66 to $56 in 12 days and market value falling by about $400 million.
