Christopher “CJ” Precopia’s life was turned upside down in 2017 when he was falsely accused by his ex-girlfriend, Faith Cox, of a violent assault. Arrested at work and facing up to 99 years in prison, CJ had no idea why.
Cox claimed CJ broke into her home and attacked her with a box cutter, even carving an “X” into her chest. Despite no physical evidence tying him to the crime, CJ was charged with first-degree felony burglary.
The case took a dramatic turn when CJ’s mother found a selfie taken at 7:02 p.m. the night of the alleged assault, showing CJ at a hotel 70 miles away. The timestamped photo, posted on Facebook, proved he couldn’t have committed the crime.
Nine months later, charges were dropped “in the interest of justice.” Cox was later charged with filing a false report.
“It’s terrifying how quickly your life can change from a lie,” CJ said.
