Carer fulfills dying woman’s last wish with song

Posted on July 2, 2025 By admin

We all age and die eventually.

I’m not afraid of death—it feels natural—but I dread losing my independence: needing help with basics, forgetting loved ones. That’s no life.

Maria spent her last days in a care home, knowing her time was short. A lifelong piano and singing teacher, she missed music deeply.

Luckily, one of her former students, Joshua Woodard, now worked at the care home in Austinburg, Ohio.

Maria’s final wish was to hear “How Great Thou Art.” Joshua, who had known her since he was nine, happily sang it for her.

“Hospice workers are angels, but this aide is special,” said Marti Adkins Redmond.

Maria and Joshua’s bond made her final moments peaceful and full of music.
