Tragedy at Milan Bergamo Airport: Man Killed After Being Pulled Into Jet Engine
On the morning of July 8, a 35-year-old man died in a horrific accident at Milan Bergamo Airport after being sucked into a jet engine. The incident, involving a Volotea Airbus A319 preparing for takeoff to Oviedo, Spain, shocked airport staff and travelers, grounding flights and triggering an urgent investigation.
According to local reports, the man breached airport security after abandoning a red Fiat 500 and forcing open a restricted door. Authorities believe he ran toward the plane during a pushback maneuver and may have intended to end his life. He was neither a passenger nor an airport employee.
Volotea confirmed the incident, stating all 154 passengers and 6 crew members were unharmed. Flights were suspended until noon, with 19 delayed or diverted.
Emergency teams and aviation investigators are examining how the man accessed the runway. Psychological support is being offered to witnesses as the airport and airline cooperate with ongoing inquiries.
