It’s heartbreaking how cruel some people can be to dogs. One such case was Buddy, a sweet, harmless dog who suffered a horrific attack in April 2021 when a child set him on fire. He was found with his face charred and an extension cord around his neck. Due to the child’s age (under 12), he couldn’t be prosecuted.
Buddy was taken in by the Tunica Humane Society and treated at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Despite the severe burns, his vital signs were stable, and his eyes were miraculously unharmed. He began a slow but steady recovery, receiving skin grafts and constant care.
Over time, Buddy’s condition improved. His bandages were gradually removed, and in a major milestone, he could finally see again without sedation. This marked a turning point — his joyful personality returned, and he began playing again, especially with his favorite toy: a ball.
Though Buddy still needs special care, like sunscreen and eye drops, he’s made incredible progress. His story has touched thousands, becoming a symbol of hope, resilience, and the importance of justice for animal cruelty.
