Ask any parent, and they’ll tell you—there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for their child. From the moment we become parents, our lives shift forever. We commit to loving, protecting, and worrying about our children endlessly.
But some things, like illness, remain beyond anyone’s control.
Alina and Aaron Edwards faced every parent’s nightmare when their 9-year-old daughter Emma was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Though hopeful at first, they were devastated when doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
Determined to make Emma’s final days meaningful, her parents set out to grant her biggest wish—not a trip or a celebrity meet-up—but to “marry” her best friend DJ, also 10.
Their story touched many. A group called “Emma’s Army” formed to support them, and with help from Make-A-Wish and the community, Emma’s dream wedding came to life in just two days—all through donations.
On June 29, 2023, Emma wore a purple dress and beamed as she was wheeled down the aisle to DJ. They exchanged vows and rings in a heartfelt, symbolic ceremony.
Just weeks later, on July 11, Emma passed away, surrounded by her loved ones. Her obituary described her as a light, a fighter, and someone who loved deeply.
Emma’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all she touched.
Rest in peace, sweet Emma. 💜
