Investigator finds starving dog tied in hot sun — covered in leopard spots

Posted on July 21, 2025 By admin

Anyone who’s experienced Arizona heat knows how brutal it can be — apparently, one dog owner didn’t get the memo.

On May 29, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) got a call about a dog left outside in 99°F heat, tied with a short rope, with no shade or water. When investigators arrived, they found a nursing mother chained to a metal fence, trying to avoid the scorching 133°F pavement. Even worse, she had been painted with leopard-print spots.

Despite the cruelty, the dog was incredibly sweet. AHS gave her water and comfort, then located her nine three-week-old puppies inside the house, separated from her.

Realizing they couldn’t provide proper care, the owner surrendered the dogs. Now named Rainbow Brite, the mama and her puppies — the Sprites — are recovering at the AHS trauma hospital and resting in a loving foster home.

The painted spots were likely for looks, part of a troubling TikTok trend where owners dye pets to look like wild animals. Vets warn it’s not just absurd — it’s harmful.

Thankfully, thanks to a concerned neighbor and AHS, this dog family now has a second chance.
