Jonathan Taylor Thomas: Where Is He Now?
At the height of his fame, Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas (JTT) shocked fans by stepping away from Hollywood, leaving many young admirers wondering why.
Now 43, Thomas was last seen publicly in 2023, sparking nostalgic reactions from fans who grew up crushing on the teen heartthrob and the voice of young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King (1994).
Thomas rose to fame playing Randy Taylor on Home Improvement from 1991 to 1998. He also balanced the role with voice work, notably as Simba. “You have to prepare yourself to become this totally different person,” he once said of juggling the two roles.
By 1998, exhausted from nonstop work since age 8, Thomas left the show before its final season. “I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break,” he said, citing migraines and burnout.
He took on edgier roles before stepping back, including in Speedway Junky and Common Ground. These performances fueled speculation about his sexuality, which he denied, calling the rumors “a blatant lie.”
Choosing education over fame, he studied philosophy and history at Harvard and later graduated from Columbia in 2010. “It was a great period in my life,” he said, “but it doesn’t define me.”
From 2013–2015, he briefly returned to TV, reuniting with Tim Allen on Last Man Standing as both actor and director.
His rare 2023 sighting drew mixed emotions from fans. While many noted his changed appearance, others applauded his decision to live privately. One fan summed it up: “He brought much joy to many with his early career.”
