The Real Reason Prince Harry and Prince William Won’t Inherit Princess Diana’s Childhood Home Leave a comment

**Why Prince William and Harry Won’t Inherit Princess Diana’s Childhood Home**

When Princess Diana died in 1997, many of her possessions went to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. However, they won’t inherit Althorp, her childhood home and burial place.

Althorp, the ancestral Spencer estate since 1508, is now managed by Diana’s brother, Charles, the current Earl Spencer. Upon his death, it will pass to his son, Louis, Viscount Althorp, following primogeniture traditions, despite Louis having three older sisters.

Charles has expressed support for his eldest daughter, Kitty, inheriting but noted it would break centuries-old tradition. Kitty, while pro-gender equality, supports her brother inheriting, believing it preserves family continuity.

Diana is buried on a private island in Althorp’s Oval Lake, inaccessible to the public. Charles finds comfort in knowing William and Harry can visit their mother’s grave privately.

In 2022, Harry brought his wife, Meghan Markle, to Althorp on the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death, describing it as a meaningful, though emotional, experience to share his mother’s resting place with Meghan.
