Katie Piper revealed on Instagram that she’s now trying a prosthetic eye shell after years of eye-related health struggles.
At 24, Katie was attacked with sulphuric acid in 2008, in a horrifying ambush orchestrated by her ex, Daniel Lynch, who was later jailed for life. The couple had only dated for two weeks; the night before the attack, Lynch reportedly raped her. The assault left Katie with severe burns, requiring over 400 surgeries.
Despite the trauma, she rebuilt her life, becoming a campaigner for burn victims and receiving an OBE for her work.
In late 2023, Katie updated fans after surgery to save her left eye, sharing that she was battling a defect and infection that had become hard to treat. Now 41, she admitted the mental toll of undergoing further procedures nearly two decades later.
Announcing her decision to try a prosthetic eye, she expressed gratitude for the NHS and her medical team, saying, “This marks the start of a new journey. I’m hopeful and nervous.”
She shared images and a video from the procedure and encouraged others with similar experiences to reach out.
