NYC gunman leaves chilling note after killing four in shooting

Posted on July 29, 2025 By admin

A gunman opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan office building on July 28, killing four people—including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam—and critically injuring one. The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, arrived at 345 Park Avenue in a black BMW and used an M4 rifle before taking his own life.

Among the victims was Officer Islam, a father of two with a third child on the way. Authorities found a handwritten three-page note at the scene, reportedly a suicide letter in which Tamura cited struggles with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a brain condition linked to repeated head trauma. A former youth football player, Tamura allegedly requested that his brain be studied after death.

Officials confirmed he had a history of mental illness. Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD mourned the loss, calling Islam a true New Yorker who “protected others with purpose and courage.”
