Trump to burn $10M taxpayer-funded birth control meant for foreign aid

Posted on July 31, 2025 By admin

In a controversial move, the Trump administration is set to burn nearly $10 million worth of taxpayer-funded contraceptives instead of distributing them to women in need globally. The supplies, funded through USAID and stockpiled in Belgium, include long-acting birth control like IUDs and implants—some not expiring until 2031.

The destruction follows the shutdown of USAID, with future aid redirected through the State Department under new ideological guidelines. Despite offers from global organizations like MSI Reproductive Choices to distribute the supplies at no cost, the administration refused, labeling the products as “abortifacients,” a claim refuted by medical experts.

Critics argue the decision prioritizes ideology over public health, potentially causing severe shortages in countries like Senegal. Belgian authorities are seeking alternatives, while the U.S. moves forward, spending an additional $167,000 on double incineration due to hormonal content. A congressional aide called it “literally burning taxpayer money.”
