Dolly Parton Mourns Husband Carl Dean While Planning Her Return to Stage
Dolly Parton is grieving the loss of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025 at age 82. The “9 to 5” singer has since paused her songwriting, admitting it’s too emotional to continue for now. “I can’t afford the luxury of getting emotional,” she said on Khloé in Wonderland, adding she hopes to write again when ready.
Despite her grief, Dolly recently released a heartfelt ballad, “If You Hadn’t Been There,” in tribute to Carl. She shared: “He’ll always be the star of my life story.”
Fans were shaken by a recent Instagram post featuring a soft portrait of Dolly, fearing it was an obituary. Many admitted to being scared before reading the uplifting caption. “Every time a Dolly post pops up, I panic,” one fan confessed.
On what would have been their anniversary, Dolly visited the Georgia church where they married in 1966, saying she felt Carl’s presence. “I brought our wedding rings. It was just so sweet.”
Though mourning, Dolly announced a major comeback: a six-show residency in Las Vegas this December—her first in 32 years. She’ll also be honored with an honorary Oscar for her philanthropy. “I’m excited,” she said. “Carl was proud of me, and I’ll keep honoring him in everything I do.”
