The Watts family appeared perfect: a beautiful home in Colorado, two daughters, and a baby on the way. But in August 2018, the illusion shattered when Chris Watts pleaded on TV for help finding his missing pregnant wife, Shanann, and daughters, Bella (4) and Celeste (3)—only to later confess to killing them.
Behind his public pleas was a grim truth: Watts had strangled Shanann and smothered their daughters, who begged for their lives. Their bodies were found—Shanann in a shallow grave and the girls in oil tanks at Watts’ work site.
It was later revealed Watts was having an affair with a coworker, Nichol Kessinger, who cut ties after learning of the murders. Watts claimed the killings followed Shanann confronting him about the affair. He later confessed he had planned the murders for weeks and even tried to give Shanann OxyContin to induce a miscarriage.
Haunting details emerged: Bella reportedly asked, “Is the same thing gonna happen to me as Cece?” before her death, and her final words were, “Daddy, no.”
Watts left Shanann’s wedding ring to stage a fake disappearance, telling police and media she had left him. He later admitted everything, pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty, and received five life sentences.
