Spanish actress Ana Obregón made headlines in 2023 after honoring her late son Aless Lequio’s final wish — to become a father — by having a child via surrogate using his preserved sperm.
Aless died from cancer in 2022 at age 27. A year later, Ana welcomed baby Anita via surrogacy in the U.S., later revealing Anita is her granddaughter, not her daughter.
“She is Aless’ daughter,” Ana told ¡Hola! in April 2023. “When she grows up, I’ll tell her her dad was a hero.”
Now 70, Ana has spoken about the joy and challenges of raising Anita while grieving her son. “My house is full of toys,” she said. “But picking her up is getting harder on my back.”
Surrogacy is illegal in Spain, so Anita was born in the U.S., and Ana legally adopted her. The decision stirred public debate due to its emotional and legal complexity.
Ana has been open about her grief, saying she felt “dead for three years” after Aless’ death — until Anita was born. In a recent ¡Hola! interview for Anita’s second birthday, she said, “I’ll never feel the happiness I had with Aless again. But Anita fills my days. Life is a breath of fresh air.”
