Jerry Adler, ‘Sopranos’ Actor, Dies at 96
Jerry Adler, the veteran actor best known for playing Herman “Hesh” Rabkin on The Sopranos, passed away Saturday at age 96, his family announced. Born in Brooklyn, Adler died in New York City surrounded by loved ones.
Adler appeared in 28 episodes of the acclaimed HBO series, portraying the trusted consigliere to Tony Soprano. Though he didn’t begin acting until age 65, his performances left a lasting impression.
A friend paid tribute on X, writing:
“The great actor, my friend Jerry Adler died today… Not bad for a guy who didn’t start acting until he was 65.”
Adler’s career spanned over 60 years across theater, film, and TV. He began as a Broadway stage manager and director, working on productions like My Fair Lady before transitioning to acting. His screen credits include The Public Eye, Manhattan Murder Mystery, The Good Wife, Rescue Me, and Transparent.
