Spanish actress Verónica Echegui (1981–2025) has died at 42 after a private battle with cancer, according to local reports. She passed away Sunday in a Madrid hospital.
Over an 18-year career, Echegui appeared in more than 30 films and TV projects. She rose to fame with her breakout role in Yo soy la Juani (2006), earning a Goya nomination, and gained further recognition with My Prisoner’s Yard (2008).
Trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Echegui was known for her versatility and emotional depth. Her filmography ranged from Spanish dramas like Katmandú (2011) to international thrillers such as The Cold Light of Day (2012) with Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis.
She also made notable television appearances and was celebrated for portraying complex, layered characters. Respected both in Spain and internationally, Echegui remained private despite her growing acclaim.
