Is Ellen DeGeneres Moving to the UK Because of Trump’s Reelection?
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly relocated to the Cotswolds in the UK, with Donald Trump’s reelection cited as a major factor. A source told The Wrap that Trump’s win was a “catalyst” for the move.
In August, DeGeneres listed her Montecito, California, mansion for sale, though the status of her other properties is unclear. A former spokesperson confirmed they no longer represent her.
The move may also be tied to DeGeneres’ exit from the entertainment industry. In her 2024 comedy special For Your Approval, she said she’d been “kicked out” after toxic workplace allegations surfaced in 2020, leading to an internal investigation and the eventual end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022.
DeGeneres, 66, is one of America’s most successful TV hosts, with a net worth of $450 million. She married Portia de Rossi in 2008. While other celebrities have threatened to leave the U.S. over Trump’s presidency, DeGeneres appears to be one of the few to follow through.
