After a school shooting, headlines often focus on the gunman—but it’s the innocent lives lost who deserve to be remembered.
This week, 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski were tragically killed outside Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis when Robin Westman opened fire.
“Please remember Fletcher”
Fletcher’s father, Jesse Merkel, gave a tearful tribute, describing his son as bright, joyful, and deeply loved. Fletcher loved cooking, fishing, and sports. “Please remember Fletcher for the person he was, not the act that ended his life,” Merkel said.
Harper Moyski
Harper had just attended a welcome Mass when she was killed. Her family described her as a vibrant, loving 10-year-old adored by her younger sister. “We are shattered,” they said, urging action to prevent future tragedies. “Her memory must fuel change.”
The attack injured 18 others—15 children and three elderly adults. At least one remains in critical condition.
The shooter, Robin Westman, died by suicide. He legally owned a shotgun, rifle, and pistol. Over 100 rifle rounds were found at the scene. A possible manifesto was posted online before the shooting. Authorities continue to investigate a motive.
