Melania Trump is staying largely out of the spotlight during her husband’s second term. While not taking on traditional First Lady duties, she continues to support her Be Best initiative, focused on children’s well-being, online safety, and opioid abuse.
On September 4, Melania made a rare public appearance at a White House AI event, promoting responsible AI use for children. “The robots are here,” she said, urging parents and leaders to guide kids through this technological shift.
However, not everyone welcomed her return. The Guardian’s columnist Arwa Mahdawi criticized Melania, suggesting her interest in AI might be self-serving and calling her speech hypocritical. Mahdawi pointed out that while Melania advocates for AI education, her husband’s administration is cutting funding for early childhood programs like Head Start.
She ended by quoting AI expert Geoffrey Hinton, warning that AI could widen inequality—something Mahdawi implies may benefit those close to Melania.
