Life can be both beautifully inspiring and painfully cruel — its unpredictability is part of the journey.
At 18 and 17 weeks pregnant, Brianna Rawlings was thrilled to become a mom when she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive blood cancer, NK cell leukemia. Earlier symptoms had been dismissed as pregnancy-related.
Faced with a heartbreaking decision, Brianna chose to delay treatment in hopes of giving her baby a chance at life. Tragically, her son Kyden, born three months premature via emergency C-section due to a blood infection, lived only 12 days.
Despite the pain, Brianna cherished every moment with Kyden, calling them “the best 12 days of my life.” Inspired by her son, she fought to survive, determined to beat the disease.
For a time, her condition seemed to improve, but her health took a turn, and a planned bone marrow transplant was canceled. A costly trial drug offered hope, and her family managed to fund two rounds before the cancer claimed her life.
Brianna Rawlings passed away on December 29, 2018, at 19 — leaving behind a legacy of immense courage, sacrifice, and love.
