Princess Diana never got to meet her grandchildren, but her legacy lives on. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—live in the UK, while Prince Harry and Meghan reside in the US with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Despite Diana’s absence, fans have noticed her influence in her grandchildren, especially Princess Charlotte, who shares the iconic “Spencer Stare” and other features with her late grandmother. Charlotte, now 10, has drawn comparisons to Diana for her looks and expressions.
William often shares memories of Diana with his children through stories and photos. In a 2017 documentary, he said he talks about Diana at bedtime to ensure his children know about both of their grandmothers.
Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte, and Louis create cards for “Granny Diana.” In 2021, Charlotte wrote, “I love you very much. Papa is missing you.”
William also continues Diana’s legacy through parenting. Inspired by her, he and Kate raise their children with awareness of real-world issues like homelessness. William recalls Diana taking him to shelters and now has similar conversations with his children during school runs.
He believes it’s vital they understand life beyond the palace. As royal expert Katie Nicholl noted, both Diana and Charles wanted their children to grow up grounded. William and Kate are continuing that approach with their own children today.
