Despite stepping down amid criticism over his leadership, former President Joe Biden claims global and political figures—including European leaders—still seek his advice.
Speaking at a human resources convention in San Diego, Biden surprised attendees by saying he continues to serve as an informal advisor. “I’m getting calls… from a number of European leaders asking me to get engaged,” he said. “I’m not [getting involved], but I’m giving advice.”
A video shared by Democratic strategist Chris Jackson shows Biden speaking in a subdued, occasionally rambling tone, shifting from soft to impassioned. “If America doesn’t lead the world, who can?” he asked. He also said lawmakers from both parties continue to consult him: “Not because they think I have the answer, just to bounce things off me.”
He then made a puzzling remark: “I’m also laying rubber with my ’67 Corvette on my driveway.”
Critics called the comments out-of-touch, pointing to ongoing problems during Biden’s presidency—rising inflation, gas prices, border issues, and internal party pressure that led him not to seek re-election. His term was also marked by controversies, including the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, scandals involving his son Hunter, and controversial pardons using autopen signatures.
A recent ICE report on failures in vetting migrant child sponsors added to the criticism.
Analysts questioned Biden’s claims of continued influence. “Given the chaos and credibility issues of his final years, the idea that foreign leaders still seek his wisdom is… bold,” one remarked.
To critics, it’s another moment where Biden seems to blur the line between legacy and delusion.
