Eric Dane, known as Dr. McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy, is now reportedly in a wheelchair and struggling to speak following his ALS diagnosis.
In April 2025, the 52-year-old revealed he had ALS, a progressive and incurable neurological disease. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side,” he told People, asking for privacy as he battles the illness.
ALS gradually robs patients of the ability to move, speak, and breathe. Dane now has limited use of one arm and says the disease is progressing quickly. “It’s sobering,” he shared in an interview, adding he wants to stay strong for his wife and daughters.
Despite the toll, Dane has been actively advocating for ALS research in Washington, D.C., supporting renewed funding for treatments. “I want to see my daughters grow up. I’m going to fight to the last breath,” he said.
Friends describe the progression as devastating, but say Dane is focused on staying positive. “He just wants to enjoy what he has now,” a source said.
Still, the actor remains hopeful: “I don’t think this is the end of my story.”
