Deyvion was just a baby when a fire tore through his Missouri apartment. Firefighters rescued him, but he was left with severe burns on his face. Against all odds, he recovered at a special burn unit—without family by his side.
At age five, he was fostered by single mom Beth Plunkett, who said, “I thought he was a beautiful little boy and fell in love with him quickly.” After 2,545 days without a family, Beth officially adopted Deyvion. “People say he’s lucky to have me, but I’m just as lucky to have him,” she said.
Firefighters who saved him never forgot that night. On adoption day, Deputy Chief Eric Smith and his crew surprised Deyvion with a custom jacket and hat, then gave him and Beth a ride to court in their fire truck. “He’s extremely special,” Smith said.
Now surrounded by love from his new family and the firefighters who rescued him, Deyvion continues to inspire everyone around him with his courage and bright spirit.
