Eric Dane’s ALS Battle
Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in April. The actor said he’s “grateful to have [his] loving family” as they face this new chapter together.
Dane, 52, has spoken openly about his condition, calling ALS a “nasty disease.” He recently missed a Grey’s Anatomy reunion at the Emmys after a fall that required stitches. “I was really upset about missing it,” he said, “but there was nothing I could do.”
Despite the challenges, Dane has been seen out with his wife Rebecca Gayheart and daughters Billie (15) and Georgia (13). Gayheart told People the diagnosis has been “heartbreaking” for their family, especially the girls.
Dane revealed on Good Morning America that his first symptoms began as weakness in his right hand, which he initially dismissed. After months of tests, he was diagnosed with ALS. “My right side has completely stopped working,” he shared. “My left arm is going too… it’s sobering.”
