The love story between Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson began in 1993 when they starred together in Anna Christie on Broadway, where sparks flew despite Richardson being married. After her marriage ended, the two wed in 1994 and had two sons.
Their undeniable chemistry was evident both on and off stage. Richardson once said she didn’t mind Neeson’s reputation as a ladies’ man, remarking, “I’m pleased that women fall in love with him because I know why.”
The couple’s bond deepened through marriage and parenthood, welcoming their sons in 1995 and 18 months later.
Tragedy struck in 2009 when Richardson suffered a fatal head injury while skiing. Honoring a pact they’d made, Neeson chose to remove her from life support after loved ones said goodbye.
Their eldest son, Micheál, later followed his parents into acting, appearing in Anchorman 2, Vox Lux, and Made in Italy alongside his father. To honor his mother, he changed his surname to Richardson — a gesture Neeson called “lovely” and deeply moving.
Through his name and career, Micheál continues to carry his mother’s legacy and the family’s passion for storytelling.
