Family Secrets
Hope and Scott were grateful to have both their mothers’ help with their baby, Miles. But when the grandmothers began to compete for attention, things turned tense — and one argument uncovered a buried secret that would change everything.
At first, having Evelyn and Thelma around was a blessing. They doted on Miles, giving Hope and Scott time to rest and reconnect. But soon, their “friendly” rivalry grew obvious — from gifts to time spent babysitting. Thelma, being widowed, often had more time with Miles, which stirred Evelyn’s jealousy.
One day, Scott came home upset. “Mom’s been crying all afternoon,” he said. “What did your mom say?”
Hope called Evelyn, who hesitated before answering: “I told her I knew the truth — that she’s not really Miles’s grandmother.”
Shocked, Hope demanded an explanation. Evelyn insisted they talk in person. When they arrived, she revealed the truth:
“Thelma isn’t Miles’s biological grandmother because she’s not your biological mother, Scott. You were adopted as a newborn.”
Evelyn explained she’d learned this from an old friend, a fertility doctor who once treated Thelma. The revelation shattered Scott — and he needed to hear it from Thelma herself.
When they confronted her, Thelma tearfully confessed. “I couldn’t have children. I was afraid if you knew, you’d go searching for your birth parents and forget me.”
Scott took her hand. “You’re my mom. That will never change.”
In the weeks that followed, Evelyn apologized for exposing the truth out of jealousy. Surprisingly, Thelma forgave her. “I’m relieved,” she said. “Keeping that secret all these years nearly broke me.”
Though painful, the truth brought healing. Scott learned that family isn’t defined by blood but by love. And while Evelyn and Thelma still argue over baby food and bedtime routines, they finally understand they both have a place in Miles’s life.
