Ethan and Sloane had been together for three years, but her father, Adam, never accepted him. From day one, Adam made his disdain clear—mocking Ethan’s blue-collar job, questioning his family, and searching for reasons to prove he wasn’t “good enough.”
Still, Ethan loved Sloane and hoped Adam would come around. On the night of their family dinner, Ethan planned to propose. Everything felt right—until Adam, grinning smugly, stood up mid-meal and opened his laptop.
“Before this night gets away from us,” he said, “there’s something you should see.”
On the screen appeared photos of Ethan sitting with another woman. “Caught cozy with someone else,” Adam sneered.
Ethan froze, heart racing—but Sloane immediately recognized the woman. “Dad, that’s Rachel—Ethan’s sister! I told you about her lunch visit last week!”
The room fell silent. Adam’s face drained of color. “I thought—” he began.
“You thought you could sabotage us,” Sloane snapped. “You’ve tried to ruin my relationship for years. I’m done letting you.”
Ethan quietly set the ring box on the table. “I was going to propose tonight,” he said, before walking out.
Later, as he sat at a nearby diner, Adam burst through the door—this time humbled. Dropping to one knee, he held out the ring box.
“I was wrong,” Adam said. “Sloane gave me a choice—apologize or lose her. Please, forgive me.”
Ethan hesitated, then sighed. “Get up,” he said. “I forgive you.”
He slipped the ring back into his pocket and headed home—to the woman he loved, ready to begin their life together at last.
