A couple has been praised for their quick actions after noticing a terrified girl behind them on a malfunctioning roller coaster at Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 11.
Chris and Casie Evins were riding the Mamba coaster when they heard the girl screaming—not in excitement but in fear—after her seatbelt came undone. Realizing the danger, the couple acted fast. Chris looped his arm under the lap bar and held the girl’s wrist, while Casie pushed down on her legs to keep her secure as the ride, which reaches 75 mph and 205 ft, continued.
A mid-ride photo captured their lifesaving efforts. The couple, familiar with the ride’s twists, said they relied on instinct to keep the girl safe.
Worlds of Fun later confirmed the ride’s secondary restraints functioned properly and that the attraction underwent multiple inspections before reopening. The park emphasized guest safety, stating no evidence of restraint failure was found, and that seat belts were slightly modified to exceed safety standards.
