Americans are being urged to check their refrigerators for pre-cooked pasta meals potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
At least six deaths and 27 infections across 18 states have been linked to Nate’s Fine Foods pasta products, sold at major supermarkets including Trader Joe’s, Sprouts, Kroger, and Walmart, according to the CDC and FDA.
The affected meals—such as fettuccine, linguine, and farfalle—have been recalled nationwide. Nate’s Fine Foods said it is “voluntarily recalling select products” and working with federal and state agencies to investigate the outbreak.
About Listeria
Listeriosis is a rare infection caused by Listeria bacteria, usually from contaminated food. Most recover without treatment, but it can be fatal for pregnant people, children, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms include fever, fatigue, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
