While helping her estranged mother pack, Lucy finds a cryptic note reading “Do not show Lucy,” sparking her curiosity. She discovers a hidden videotape in a safe, raising questions about what her parents are hiding.
Lucy recalls the tension-filled car ride with her father as they head to her parents’ house to pack up her mother’s belongings. Despite their strained relationship, Lucy agrees to help. As she packs, a note at the bottom of the list catches her eye: “Do not show Lucy.” She finds a dusty videotape in the safe, and, ignoring the warning, takes it with her.
Later, she watches the tape at home and is stunned to hear her mother call a young girl “Chloe”—a name she’s never heard before. Determined to find answers, Lucy visits her mother in the nursing home. There, her mother tearfully confesses that Chloe was their first daughter, who died in an accident. Lucy, it turns out, is adopted, a secret her parents had kept to protect her.
As Lucy absorbs the revelation, she realizes that the truth doesn’t change how she feels about her mother. Finally, they share a heartfelt embrace, and for the first time, Lucy feels at peace.
