Zohran Mamdani has won the 2025 Mayoral elections for New York City, and it’s safe to say that it’s not only the citizens but Hollywood too that’s a fan.
Mamdani became the first Muslim and youngest mayor in decades to beat out big names such as Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. After his mega win, a number of leading Hollywood figures publicly weighed in on the matter, some praising him while others criticizing him.
Amongst the praise included actress Cynthia Nixon, who lauded Mamdani on Instagram and referred to him as a miracle for nature and a breath of fresh air that NYC required.
She also mentioned how she was a huge fan and would be following him to the ends of the earth. This referenced their long-standing activism around drivers’ rights, hunger strikes, and cease-fire rallies.
At the same time, leading model Emily Ratajowski also backed him up, wearing a hot girl with a Mamdani t-shirt on election day, urging people to vote for him to get change.
She also shared that this is how the future of the Democratic Party looked. Similarly, actress Lupita Nyong shared how she first met him two decades ago, and posted that she believed he possessed the personality, skills, and temperament of an excellent mayor of New York City.
There were some who weren’t too happy to see him get elected, and amongst those included the likes of Michael Rapaport, who criticized him as being a fraud class and cited his dining at an expensive restaurant while living in a rent-stabilized apartment as questionable.
He added that he acts like he’s elite but is far from it. Debra Messing also reposted a controversial post that called the new mayor a communist jihadist, for which she received massive backlash.
