She made her TV debut on her father’s show Robert Montgomery Presents and later appeared on Broadway in Late Love (1953) and in her first film The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955).
Elizabeth’s personal life saw several marriages—first to Frederick Gallatin Cammann, then actor Gig Young, and later director William Asher, with whom she had three children.
Her most iconic role came in 1964 as Samantha Stephens on Bewitched. The hit sitcom ran for eight seasons, earning her multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and making her a household name.
After Bewitched, she turned to dramatic TV movies such as A Case of Rape (1974) and The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975), earning praise for her versatility. During this period, she met Robert Foxworth, her longtime partner whom she married in 1993.
Elizabeth’s career was tragically cut short when she died from colon cancer on May 18, 1995, at her Beverly Hills home, surrounded by family.
