Queen Elizabeth Grew Weary of Prince Harry’s Money Requests
Prince Harry’s repeated pleas for financial help left Queen Elizabeth II increasingly irritated and disappointed in her final years, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson’s new book The Windsor Legacy.
Jobson writes that the Queen, then 94, even refused one of Harry’s calls during her daily teatime, suspecting it was about money. After later speaking with him, she reportedly sighed, “More money.”
Though she loved her grandson, the monarch grew frustrated with his constant demands after his 2020 royal exit. Both she and then-Prince Charles had agreed to fund Harry and Meghan Markle’s expenses for a year, yet Harry’s requests allegedly continued.
Charles initially welcomed Meghan but became disillusioned as tensions rose. The Queen was also displeased by Meghan’s lavish spending, including an $80,000 Dior gown.
When the couple proposed a “half-in, half-out” royal role, the Queen rejected it as incompatible with royal unity, calling Harry’s behavior “quite mad.” Eventually, she had his calls redirected to Charles—who also stopped answering after Harry demanded more money.
Palace aides said the Queen felt betrayed and exhausted by the constant drama.
